INDUSTRY UPDATE ON EMR/EHR CERTIFICATION JULY 13, 2010:
On July 13, the ONC and CMS released final rules outlining EMR/EHR certification requirements and EHR meaningful use incentive payment programs. Through careful review of the public comments, HHS crafted final rules that focus on usability and easier adoption of EMR/EHR technology. Simplicity™ is the most usable EMR in the market. As active proponents of usability centric certification standards, Simplicity™ EMR applauds the final rules and is poised to meet the new certification criteria.
INDUSTRY UPDATE ON EMR/EHR CERTIFICATION JUNE 18, 2010:
On June 18 the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology released its final rule (http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2010/pdf/2010-14999.pdf) establishing a temporary electronic health records certification program under the HITECH Act. This rule does not grant grandfather status to EMR/EHRs that were previously certified by CCHIT, i.e. they are no longer certified. All EMR/EHR systems must now meet ONC standards to qualify as certified technology. The ONC has outlined the application process for Authorized Testing and Certifying Bodies (ATCBs) and once the ATCBs are government approved they may begin to test and certify EMR/EHR systems. Simplicity™ EMR is poised to begin the certification process as soon as qualified ATCBs begin accepting applications.
